JOINT REVIEW OF THE SDC RURAL WASH PROGRAMME IN ZIMBABWE
The goal of this Rural WASH programme (RWP), which runs from mid-2012 to June 2016 is to contribute to the reduction in WASH related diseases and womens workload, improve basic education outcomes, and gender equality; through the DFID contribution of 33 million in 30 target districts complemented by an additional Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) contribution of CHF 5.8 million from January 2013 to increase the target districts from 30 to 33 in 5 provinces of Zimbabwe (Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Midlands and Mashonaland West). All thirty-three districts currently have low WASH access and are prone to cholera. Many of the districts covered have been adversely affected by drought in the least 3 years, adding an additional burden to poverty levels and livelihood resilience UNICEF is implementing the RWP as part of its Country Programme of Cooperation in Zimbabwe and in partnership with eight Implementing Partners (IPs) . The private sector is also being encouraged to engage. The overall objective of this mission was to Value-for-Money study of the programme, involving a detailed consideration of each component, be carried out in 2015/16 to determine the net worth of the study. The results of the study are expected to be used to inform future programming of RWASH. Provision of Technical Assistance in the form of continuous but periodic short-term missions to DFID-Zimbabwe to carry out independent Annual Reviews of the multi-donor funded USD50 million Zimbabwe Rural WASH Programme
