| Background: | The international HIV and AIDS Alliance has recently been awarded a one year contract (October 2010 to end September 2011) by the Department for International Development. This is for the implementation of a programme aimed at reducing HIV related maternal mortality in Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia, to be achieved through HIV and AIDs social mobilisation, advocacy and enabling HIV positive women and their families to overcome barriers to accessing effective health services.The programme works through National Partnership Platforms (NPP) and Alliance linking organisations in each country. A NPP is a civil society platform of independent NGOs, networks and CBOs all working in the area of HIV and AIDS and TB, who share information, collaborate and implement a joint advocacy agenda around key issues |
| Objectives: | The main goal for the study was to design and conduct a regional baseline, and policy mapping for the programme “Reducing HIV related Maternal Mortality” (2010-2011) that captures information for each of the four result areas in order to determine programme impact on HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) integration and MCH in the areas of community knowledge and practice, national policy & advocacy, effective health service referral and access for HIV positive women and families |
