HOUSEHOLD VULNERABILITY TO DISASTERS
Farnpan developed a statistical index the Household Vulnerability Index for quantifying household vulnerability. The HVI is a composite measure that comprises 15 indicators of household vulnerability. On the basis of the 15 indicators, a statistical score is calculated for each household resultant index is used to categorizes households on the basis of their level of vulnerability. The FFC and other consortium partners (i.e. FARNPAN) are interested in evaluating the vulnerability of households to climate change disaster risk. This is in line with 2013/14 recommendation of institutionalizing the use of vulnerability indices. The major objectives of this assignment are as follows; To use the HVI tool to evaluate vulnerability of rural households to natural disasters, food and water insecurities.
