JIMAT Consult (in Association with Agema Consultoria) completed Training of Malawi and Mozambique Border Management Authority Staff on Trade Facilitation During Pandemics and Climate-Change Induced Disasters in Malawi and Mozambique.
The five-day course was targeted at Customs Officials, Port Health Officers, Immigration Officers, Agriculture Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards Control Officers, Disaster Management Authorities, Security Sector Agencies, Foreign Affairs, Trade and Transport Ministries,

The training laid out a solid policy framework, and practical tools for trade facilitation in the Nacala Development Corridor regions and targeted border areas in Mozambique and Malawi. It strengthened coordination of responses to pandemics, other public health emergencies and climate-induced natural disasters, and iIt details Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering prevention, mitigation, and management of pandemics and climate-induced disasters, with a focus on facilitating cross-border trade, movement of people, and continuity of essential services. The content was delivered through structured training packages of five days each in each country. It combined plenary presentations in PowerPoint slide decks, participant engagement exercises, group discussions, and practical trade research activities. Key topics included objectives and rationale for SOPs, guiding principles, impacts of pandemics and climate change on trade, detailed multi-level coordination mechanisms, health and safety protocols, cargo handling, quarantine and wellness measures, supportive actions for transporters, traders and trade associations, simplified trade and customs regimes, e-platforms to digitize trade, e-payment systems, single-window processing, environmentally friendly waste management, and robust inter-agency coordination platforms at national, district, border, and village levels to ensure effective, resilient, and harmonized pandemic and disaster response across both countries.
